Life is what happens while you're busy making other plans!

All systems were go!

Then something happened...

A few things, actually, which made me have to rethink things.

My day job, and the source of all funding from family to comic book projects, went away. I wasn't fired, the show wasn't cancelled, but my job went away.

Hero Code is still go, maybe just not at the pace I would have liked.

I am in the process of putting together a Kick-Starter campaign to help with the production and publication costs of the series. Issue one is still scheduled to be done by October - in fact we have 15 pages completed, and a further 8 to go.

I will be going through the process of cleaning up the site, and will be working towards posting more as we get closer to completion.

Basically watch this space!

Where it's at...

As I'm sure most of you who have been visiting this site are aware, things have changed.

I'm still in the process of working out how to present this story to you in the best way possible. It's not so much indecision as organic adaption!

The general, sprawling, seemingly-unconnected-ness of the story had me wondering which chapters to present in which order? How best to get all the story out there?

Keep it simple.

The series will be released as continuous issues. The story will also appear here, updating a page a week.

Issue one should be completed in October, ready for the Long Beach Comic Con. Pages will begin to go up online two weeks issue one is released (through Indyplanet and probably available to order online direct from me).

This will hopefully be the pattern I'll keep.

I'll also be offering pre-orders for the issues.

Posted here is another take at the cover for issue one - featuring colours by Heather Breckel.

I'm hoping to have one more run at the cover done by one other colourist, playing around with what works and what doesn't while I have time!

Be seeing you!

Hero Code Cover - now in colour!

Here is the coloured cover for issue one of The Hero Code - art by Drew Johnson, colours by Splash.

Following on from some advice from Javier Hernandez, I changed the size of the logo and skirt a little. I wanted to keep the logo smaller than I think it normally would be on a cover, simply because I wanted to have the characters and the logo clear of each other. For a first issue the importance of having everything clear seemed high. Because of the diagonal composition of the characters, I felt that they were the striking thing about the cover, not the logo - but at the same time the normal rules of the logo appliy - clear, clean, readable across a room etc.

Let me know what you think.

Hero Code Cover

I have the finished pencils for Hero Code issue one in. Featuring stunning art work by Drew Johnson it shows Optiman, Myth and Black Wraith, and it looks absolutely amazing.

It's off to be coloured now. The issue itself is coming along nicely, with nine pages of art completed, three coloured. I'm still very hopeful of having the book ready for October's Long Beach Comic Con.

I'll, of course, keep you posted.

Things are afoot at the circle K

Good morning all!

It's been a terribly long time since I wrote anything here, but please don't think that things in the Hero Code universe have not been moving forward! If nothing, I have been a little too busy with other stuff to get to this still relatively soft site.

There are going to be changes here in the coming months. Firstly, the site is going to have a little clean up and overhaul.

Secondly, a creative team for the first arc of the Hero Code has been lock in, and work is being done right now (art on pages 7-9 and colours on pages 1-3) to get the first chapter of this arc completed.

Hero Code will now be told as a long form story. Updated once a week with a new page, the story will start and just keep on going until I run out of steam, ideas, money, hope, memory or whatever.

We will be putting the books up here, and then with each chapter's completion, a floppy edition will be released through those fine folks at Indy Planet (using their Ka-Blam POD service). With each arc, you can expect to see a collected version pretty soon after using the same model. And of course digital copies will also be available.

Basically, if you want to read Hero Code, you will pretty soon be able to read it how you want, when you want and where you want.

I'm hoping to have the first issue completed by June, when the pages will start going up on-line. I want at least an issue in the bank before I start posting.

So, once again, thank you for your patience, and we are almost there. 2011 will be all about Hero Code for me, and I hope you join in, spread the word and enjoy the ride!
